Recording in Child
Protection
Target Audience
All staff who are represented on the Southern
Area Trust Safeguarding Panel and for
whom recording is a key task.
Please note this is a basic recording course
designed specifically for newly qualified
staff or staff with an identified training need
in this area, whose work brings
them into contact with children. It does not
address "skilled court report
writing" or presenting evidence in court but
will look at general report writing in
child protection

Aim
To enable participants to understand the
importance of effective recording practices
in child protection
Learning outcomes
• To reference findings from reviews,
inquiries, inspections that inform
practice/responsibilities in child
protection recording
• To explore practitioner
responsibilities in relation to recording as
outlined within the regional Child
Protection Policy & Procedures and other
associated tools for collating and
recording information
• To discuss the legal, professional and
ethical issues involved in CP recording
• To explore good practice which is
evidence based within child protection
• To outline the key principles in
writing reports for court
